Shulgan-Tash Cave on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Shulgan-Tash is a karst cave in the Burzyansky District of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. It is located on the Belaya River in the Shulgan-Tash Nature Reserve. The cave is best known for its Paleolithic cave paintings. It is a federal cultural heritage site. Since 2025, it has been officially named the Shulgan-Tash Cave Rock Paintings. This decision was made after a state historical and cultural examination, which took into account historical documents and legends of the Bashkir people. In 2025, the site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List under its original name, as given by the local population. This made it the first site in Bashkortostan to be included in the list.
