There’s a new world chess champion and he’s the first ever to hail from China. Ding Liren took the title after defeating his Russian opponent Ian Nepomniachtchi in an exciting tie-breaker on Sunday. As they each had won seven of the previous 14 games, it all came down to a winner-takes-all shootout at the weekend.
